The 'Rituale Augustanum minus Ad Normam Ritualis Romani' by Joseph, Bishop of Augsburg, represents a regionally adapted Catholic sacramentary based on the Roman model of Benedict XIV. Its aim was to standardize liturgical actions such as baptisms, marriages, anointings of the sick, and funerals according to the church's directives of that time. A particular focus is on the inclusion of specific exorcism rituals: these include, alongside blessings and prayers, liturgically regulated procedures for casting out evil — structured into readings, intercessions, sprinkling with holy water, the profession of faith, and concluding prayers. The exorcism is performed as a prayer to God for liberation but can also be a direct address to the evil spirit. According to church norms, the major exorcism could only be performed with the explicit permission of the bishop by an authorized priest, always requiring medical and psychological evaluation beforehand. The work authentically reflects the liturgical practice of the 18th century in the Diocese of Augsburg.

Every power of the adversary, every army of the devil, every attack and every illusion of Satan shall be uprooted and driven out of this creature of oil, so that it may bring healing of the spirit and body to all who use it, in the name of God, the Almighty Father, and Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, and in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire. Amen.
