Romain Steppe Antwerp 1859 - 1927. Romain Steppe is known for his marine paintings, seascapes that he painted in a realistic style with an impressionistic touch.
He worked along the banks of the Schelde, at the Belgian coast, and in the Antwerp port. From his marine interests, his fascination with the changing effects of the
Light and the characteristics of sunlight depending on the hour, season, and weather. He later also painted in England, the Netherlands, Italy, and France.
He returned to Antwerp in 1887, where he became a member of the art society 'Als ik Kan' in 1888, founded by a group of former students.
From the Antwerp Academy. Was friends with E. Verhaeren and Isidoor Meyers, and frequently stayed in Sint-Amands.
