The name of Zack resonates loudly throughout the gay community as one of the leading creators of erotic imagery. Under his real name, Oliver Frey, he has had an impressive career as an illustrator — but his pseudonym Zack represents a marvelous universe of its own: sexy boys and muscular men, love, lust, and complete abandon. It’s rare to find an artist with such an incredible sense for both compelling storytelling and precise anatomy. 'Zack - The Art' offers a comprehensive overview of the life’s work of an icon of gay art.
Ron Zack
Born in Switzerland, Oliver Frey, also known as Zack, ended up in London and, after supporting himself while attending the London Film School by illustrating war comics, he dove into gay art and publishing. Countless illustrations flowed from his pen and brush for British magazines HIM International, Vulcan, Teenage Dreams, the HIM Gay Library series, and Mister magazine. For HIM, he created the groundbreaking Rogue comic strip and later The Street, which inspired the cult TV series Queer As Folk. His work has been widely seen through Gay Toons on the Internet (and in many blogs) and in several strips in America’s Meatmen books. He collaborates with his partner Roger Kean on creating illustrated fiction, the first of which is Boys of Vice City, published by Bruno Gmünder. Recently, Gmünder published his comic-strip story collections Bike Boy and Hot For Boys—The Sexy Adventures of Rogue. A third, Bike Boy Rides Again, is scheduled for release in February 2012. He lives with his partner in a medieval town on the edge of Wales.
