【Product details】
This unsigned wakizashi is accompanied by a plain wooden storage scabbard bearing an inscription attributing the blade to Hizen no Kuni Tadatoshi. Tadatoshi was an early Edo period swordsmith active in Hizen Province (present-day Saga Prefecture). The first-generation Tadatoshi is especially renowned as a master of the Keicho Shinto period and is considered one of the representative smiths of that era.
The overall length of the koshirae is 79 cm, and the blade length is 68 cm.
The sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, as the original document will be returned to the authorities.
According to the Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, the blade is classified as a wakizashi, measuring approximately 53 cm in length (1 shaku 7 sun 5 bu) with a curvature of approximately 0.8 cm (2 bu 5 rin), and it bears four peg holes. There is no inscription on the tang. The certificate was originally issued in Hiroshima Prefecture on 5 June 1941 (Showa 16), under registration number 4772.
The blade shows minor rust and has a few tiny nicks along the cutting edge. There is a small blunted area at the tip. Additional minor chips are present on the section of the blade concealed by the wooden collar. The scabbard shows small scratches and a natural patina. The sword stand is not included.
