Description from the seller
Collection of eight astronomy essays by three professors and scientists from the astronomical observatory (founded in 1787) of the Roman College in Rome, including its director Giuseppe Calandrelli (1749-1827), an astronomer and mathematician among the first to observe stellar parallax, estimate comet masses, assess their potential atmospheric size, and examine the use of barometers for mathematically estimating altitudes.
Work dedicated to Pope Pius VII, benefactor of the observer, who acquired significant instruments in Paris in 1805: "a circle, a clock, and a large aperture telescope."
Between 1803 and 1824, Calendrelli and Conti published 8 volumes of astronomical and physical observations, printed on presses of Salmoni and Romanis.
As published at the time in a small in-folio format, entirely untrimmed, saddle-stitched, with a waiting cover, printed on vellum, illustrated with two folding plates and numerous tables.
Solid and clean volume. Damaged back (two parts of the paper slightly torn). A fragment of the title cut out.
Good specimen.
Author: Giuseppe Calandrelli, Andrea Conti, Giacomo Ricchebach
Astronomical Brochures by Giuseppe Calandrelli, Andrea Conti, and Giacomo Ricchebach ... with appendix
Rome, at the De Romanis printing house, 1813 - 292 pages + 2 folding plates
