Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A single Japanese wooden table finished in black lacquer, a refined serving table with S-shaped legs and elongated side cut-outs, in good condition with minor aging signs, measuring 42 cm wide, 22 cm high, and 27.5 cm deep, dating to the 1950s–1960s.
Description from the seller
Good condition.
Description:
This piece is a refined Japanese black-lacquered serving table (often called oshiki, zen, or a small kyōsoku-style stand), crafted with a graceful, almost sculptural presence. The entire form is finished in a deep, glossy black lacquer that reflects light softly across its surface. The tabletop has a subtly framed border, giving it a sense of quiet structure without interrupting the clean, uninterrupted lacquer.
The legs are the standout feature of this piece. Each one curves outward in an elegant S-shape, reminiscent of classical furniture forms but expressed with the fluidity typical of Japanese lacquerwork. The silhouette gives the table an elevated, airy feeling while still appearing stable and balanced. Along the sides, elongated cut-out openings lighten the visual weight and add refinement to the overall design, making the table feel both decorative and functional.
The craftsmanship is very clean, with smooth planes, refined edges, and well-controlled curves. Its simple surface, free from maki-e decoration, lets the beauty of the lacquer and the graceful form speak for themselves. This type of table is often used in tea gatherings, formal meal settings, or as a stand for displaying important objects such as lacquer bowls, flower arrangements, or seasonal ornaments. It has a dignified, traditional presence while remaining minimal and elegant.
