He has been an IndyCar Series driver since 2020, debuting with Dale Coyne Racing. He was champion in 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025 with Chip Ganassi Racing, and finished fifth in 2022, becoming the first Spaniard to achieve this. He is the fourth driver to achieve three consecutive championships, after Ted Horn, Sébastien Bourdais, and Dario Franchitti, as well as the youngest four-time champion in the history of IndyCar (28 years, 4 months, and 9 days).
He was a reserve driver for the McLaren team in Formula 1 in 2022 and 2023, making his debut in the free practice sessions of the United States Grand Prix in 2022.
