First edition in this format of L'Eloge de la folie by Erasme, translated into French by Monsieur de Gueudeville, published in Leiden by Pierre Vander Aa in 1713; 312 pages, leather binding, 16.5 × 9 cm, illustrated literary work with a religious theme.

The first French-language edition with the unparalleled engravings after Holbein.
'The Praise of Folly' composed in the form of a declamation by Erasmus of Rotterdam, with some notes by Listrius and the beautiful engravings of Holbein: all based on the original from the University of Basel... Newly translated into French by Monsieur de Gueudeville - Leiden, at Pierre Vander Aa, 1713 - (36), 312 pages. - Title page with three portrait engravings of Erasmus, Holbein, Morus, title page, also 75 engravings [69 within the text + 6 fold-outs].
Condition: reasonably good: leather binding 40% split at the seam, hinges inside in good condition, slightly stained on the margins, fold-out engravings just about still neat in the fold. Two pages with a short tear without loss. Otherwise in good, typical antiquarian condition. Complete copy.
