Portrait titled Portret van een heer met bril, an oil on canvas realist work from 1940–1950, signed on the back, measuring 55 by 50 cm, originating from the Netherlands and depicting a profile portrait of a man with a facial light, with original edition and in good condition.
Description from the seller
Remarkable! (magical) realistic oil paint on canvas portrait 'man with glasses in profile.' Signed on the back of the canvas (see photo) 'Fernhout.' Dated around 1940/1950. A powerfully realistic painted portrait with beautiful light on the man's face.
Canvas 55x50cm. The canvas is in good condition, with some paint loss here and there (mainly in the background); it could benefit from a professional cleaning in the future.
Origin: A.M. van den Broek collection (1932-1995)
Probably (hence no reserve price) the work of the portrait painter Edgar Fernhout (1912-1974).
Edgar Richard Johannes Fernhout was a Dutch painter. He was the son of the artist Charley Toorop and the philosopher Henk Fernhout. Like his mother and his grandfather Jan Toorop, he mainly worked as a painter. In 1937, the Hague gallery Nieuwenhuizen Segaar organized a special exhibition around the three generations of Toorop. The work 'Three Generations,' which Charley Toorop wanted to create in response to this, was only completed in 1950. He taught painting for many years at the alternative art school 'Ateliers '63' in Haarlem. His son Rik Fernhout is also a painter.
