Hermès PROFILE silk carré, vintage first edition 1974 (reissued 1984) designed by Shan Merry, 86 x 88 cm, made in France, in very good unused condition, delivered in its Hermès box.
Description from the seller
Hermès vintage square titled 'Profilé' or 'Lift Profilé', first edition 1974, reissued in 1984.
The drawing is by Shan Merry, pseudonym of Manoëlle Guillemot, a refined French artist and collaborator of Hermès. Gold decorations on a dark red background and Bordeaux details frame a monogram with two interlaced H's, one of the symbols of the House of Hermès. A cartouche with the inscription 'Hermès Paris' and a copyright symbol. Rare Hermès scarf from the 1970s in a hand-finished silk twilly.
In the center of the drawing, framed by old bridle bits, two interlaced 'H's recall the marriage of Émile Hermès and Julie Hollande in 1900. This monogram was placed on the doors of the store at 24 Faubourg Saint Honoré during the major renovations of 1924 and still adorns the elevator inaugurated at that time. Several decades later, Richard Nixon, then President of the United States, found himself blocked in front of the staff and his bodyguards, stunned. In memory of this adventure, the elevator was renamed after his illustrious prisoner. At Hermès, small stories sometimes meet grand ones.
SIZE AND MEASUREMENTS | The scarf measures 86 x 88 cm. A great Hermès classic.
Quite rare and quite sought after by collectors.
Dominant colors: glazed chestnut, gold, gold.
Delivered in its original Hermès box.
Very good condition: puffed rolled edges, no pulled threads, no stains, no discoloration, no holes.
