Description from the seller
On December 1, 2010, Marten Toonder's cultural legacy (all of his own work) was officially transferred by his heirs to the Literary Museum Leiden and has since become the property of the Dutch State. In November 2018, the Marten Toonder Studios archive was donated to the Literature Museum in The Hague and the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam. See the last photo.
In 1945, Marten Toonder created the first stories of Kappie. This 'comic strip' ran from 1945 to 1972. The main character is a captain that Marten Toonder designed after his father. A total of 141 Kappie stories were published. Almost immediately after the first publication, Kappie quickly became one of Marten Toonder's most popular and successful creations (Studio's), which, like Tom Poes, was also published across borders. Throughout the world (including Belgium and France), this comic strip appeared in newspapers, weekly magazines, and booklets were published. The strip continued for decades in newspapers and weekly magazines. The first Kappie stories were drawn by Marten Toonder himself. Later, he delegated this work to his studio staff, the most famous of whom is Piet Wijn, also known for the comic Douwe Dabbert. After Tom Poes and Panda, Kappie is the most well-known creation of Marten Toonder.
