Description from the seller
Rare Brussels edition of the preparatory works of the Civil Code, published in Year XI (1803) by G. Huyghe, Printer-Bookseller at the Marché-aux-Fromages. This complete set of four volumes contains the Speeches and the Statement of Motives that led to the drafting and adoption of the French Civil Code, preceded by a Historical Prologue on the variations in French legislation since 1787.
Historical importance: The preparatory works of the Civil Code (discourse by Portalis, Tronchet, Bigot de Préameneu, Maleville) are a major historical and legal source for understanding the legislative intent of the Napoleonic Code.
