Oil painting on canvas by the Neapolitan painter Domenico Battaglia (Naples, 05/18/1842 – Naples 1921), of Neapolitan school.
Very young, he took lessons from Filippo Palizzi, who, struck by his talent, convinced him to dedicate himself full-time to art. Always connected to Palizzi, the young Battaglia began attending the Institute of Fine Arts, where his teachers included Giuseppe Mancinelli, Camillo Guerra, and Palizzi himself, and his classmates were Gustavo Mancinelli, Alfonso Simonetti, and Giuseppe De Nittis.
His early works depict rural scenes and animals.
Participates in numerous exhibitions in Italy, Paris, and London, and their paintings are displayed in various museums and important private and public collections.
The work for sale represents Battaglia's youthful artistic phase and is situated within the tradition of depicting nature and animals in the Palizzian school.
The artwork comes from the private collection of an important Italian family and was previously auctioned by a renowned auction house.
