Description from the seller

This rare Buddhist folk art Thangka comes from the Chinese region of Yunnan, where it was purchased by the current owner in an antique shop in the 1980s.
The artwork is painted on four strips of local fabric sewn together, these fabrics were woven by the ethnic minorities of Yunnan and were also used to make traditional garments later embroidered by hand (a vibrant embroidery can be seen in the upper right). The entire piece was then sewn onto black fabric, which functions as a 'frame' and support thanks to bamboo cane supports. The painting can be rolled up on itself.
The painted image depicts a protective warrior deity. The figure wears an animal fur symbolizing strength and courage, and around the neck, there is a Gau reliquary, a container of sacred images or relics that signifies protection and devotion. In the left hand, there is a Phurba (ritual dagger), and in the right hand, a Kartika (curved-blade knife).
The upper bamboo cane measures 88 cm, the lower one 76 cm. The painted panel without a black border measures 63x49 cm.
The Thangka will be shipped rolled up and perfectly packed.
