Description from the seller
Painter Giò Batta Lepori was born in Livorno in the historic San Jacopo district. Self-taught, he approached painting at an adolescent age, occasionally attending the art studio of painter Giovanni Bartolena. After years working at Stanic, in 1946, at the age of 34, he made the definitive decision to pursue a career as a painter. His first solo exhibition of his works took place in Livorno at the Labronica gallery from January 2 to January 16, 1946. He participated with two works in the collective exhibition of Italian artists at the Harem House in New York. Many exhibitions followed, but in 1953, with a solo show of 64 works at Palazzo Marignoli in Rome, he caught the attention of the Honorable Giovanni Gronchi, then President of the Chamber, who purchased two paintings for the collection of the Chamber of Deputies. Giò Batta Lepori, deeply connected to his hometown, often reproduced its coastal and hilly landscapes. His art reveals a passion for nature and its colors. He distanced himself from the exhibition circuit in the 1970s but remained active until his death at the age of 91. The oil painting on a small board is signed at the bottom left and has an artist's label attached to the back. The painting measures 35x50 cm. The frame is considered a complimentary addition; no claims regarding the frame will be accepted. Shipping will be via tracked express courier with careful packaging.
