Tree of Life

The Tree of Life symbol has become very popular in jewelry, and this popularity shows no signs of waning. Wearing the Tree of Life is not just a fashion trend but also a profound symbol. Since ancient times, the Tree has been considered a sacred amulet with significant meanings in both religious and spiritual philosophy. The Tree of Life is generally depicted as a large tree with extended branches and roots reaching both upward and downward, most often enclosed within a circle. This symbol is associated with family, religion, philosophy, and spirituality, and it dates back to nearly all ancient cultures. The idea of a Tree of Life has existed for almost as long as humans have. There is something inspiring, rooted, and reassuring about this symbol.
In Buddhist tradition, the Bodhi tree has always been revered, as it was under this tree that the Buddha attained enlightenment. The Bodhi tree represents the path to enlightenment and is a symbol of life.

The Star of David is a hexagram formed by two equilateral triangles and serves as the emblem of Judaism. According to legend, King David's shield had exactly this shape, which is why the original Hebrew name for the Star of David is Magen David, or Magen David, meaning "Shield of David."
The image of Magen David is often placed in synagogues, sacred vessels, etc. It also serves as the emblem of the Zionist Organization and many other institutions.

Jewish law prohibits the depiction of God, as well as the use of any symbol, and the Shield of David is not mentioned even once in the Talmud. Therefore, it can hardly be assumed that the Magen David appeared in the Talmudic era, although its image was recently discovered on a tombstone in Tarentum (southern Italy), which must date to the third century AD.

The first mention of the Magen David is in the Eshkol HaKofer by the Karaite Yehuda Hadassi (mid-12th century), where he says: “Seven angelic names precede the mezuzah: Michael, Gabriel… may God protect you! Also, next to the name of each angel is placed a symbol called the Shield of David.”

Apparently, the Magen David was known at that time for its amulets. The magical papyri often feature images of a pentagram and a star, on which the names of the Almighty are inscribed, but no hexagrams are found. The great magical papyri of Paris and London do not feature a Magen David, although a triangle is found there (perhaps it was placed here instead of a hexagram). The six-pointed star is also missing from Budge's amulet illustrations in his Egyptian Magic (London, 1899).

The Magen David most likely gained its popularity thanks to Kabbalah.

The pentagram, also called the Seal of Shlomo (Solomon), also serves as a talisman. Henry believes that the Hindus borrowed it from the Semites (Magie dans l'Inde antique, c. 93, Paris, 1904), although its name cannot serve as evidence of Jewish or Semitic origin. Hindus also used the hexagram as a talisman. It is quite possible that in synagogues it was used as an ornament for the mezuzah, and the name Shield of David speaks of its protective power. As an ornament, it could have originally been used to decorate synagogues. This type of ornament can be found, for example, in the cathedrals of Brandenburg and Stendhal, and in the Market Church in Hanover.

Charles VI (1354) granted the Jews of Prague a red banner with the "Shield of David" and the "Seal of Solomon," and the red banner with which the Jews greeted King Matthias of Hungary had two pentagrams and two golden stars (Schwandthner, Scriptores Rerum Hungaricarum II, 148). This proves that the pentagram was also in use among the Jews, and we indeed find it in a manuscript of 1073 (facsimile in Seder Eliyahu Rabbah ve-Seder Eliyahu Zuta, M. Friedmann, Vienna 1901).
