Description from the seller

Atmospheric and characterful landscape by Mijndert van den Berg (Gorinchem, July 5, 1876 – The Hague, April 8, 1967), an artist considered part of the Hague School.

The painting is executed in oil on board and depicts a tranquil forest scene with slender trees, rendered in loose, impressionistic brushwork. The harmonious color palette of greens and earth tones creates a calm and balanced composition, characteristic of the Dutch landscape tradition.

The paint is applied vividly and somewhat paste-like, giving the surface depth and dynamism, and beautifully expressing the play of light. The work testifies to Van den Berg's great affinity with the Dutch landscape and his skill as an observer of nature and atmosphere.

The painting is in excellent condition, signed at the bottom right, and comes from a private collection. It is offered with a beautiful, classical frame that enhances the work aesthetically and makes it immediately ready for display.

His body of work mainly consists of river and polder landscapes, village and city views, (artists') portraits, and still lifes.
