Art Deco tobacco pot in burnished stoneware (grès flammé) signed Guérin, by Grès de Bouffioulx, Belgium, dating from circa 1920–1930, 24 cm high, 20 cm wide, 20 cm deep, 1.7 kg, in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
To complete your collection or decorate your interior, I offer you this superb smoking pipe in flamed stoneware, signed Guérin (Roger Guérin) by the Faïencerie de Bouffioulx, which is part of the rich heritage of Belgian art stoneware.
Period and style: Art Deco around 1920-1930.
The Bouffioulx region indeed owes its prestige to its silica-rich, sandstone clay, extracted from local karst depressions. This material, capable of withstanding very high temperatures (up to 1300 °C), allows for the application of complex glazes and vitrification techniques. Here, shades of ochre, red, and brownish blue are achieved through a subtle work of dripping glazes, reminiscent of natural flames. This mastery, combined with craftsmanship passed down through generations, gives each piece a unique character.
This piece embodies not only technical excellence but also the intimate connection between the artisan and their material. Its timeless aesthetic makes it an ideal choice for enthusiasts of history, ceramics, and interior decoration.
Excellent condition of preservation, with no cracks or chips; I show some cooking marks (due to the cooking technique of the time).
Highly protected shipment with insurance will be provided.
