The Battle of Bibracte was fought between a Gallic confederation centred around the Helvetii and a Roman army under the command of Gaius Julius Caesar. It was the first major battle of the Gallic Wars in 58BC
Large folio leaf with fine woodcut.
Published in 1548.
Wonderful woodcut leaf from the exceedingly scarce first edition of the great Stumpf Chronicle, one of the greatest illustrated works of the early to mid 16th Century.
Heinrich Vogtherr (the Elder) (1490 in Dillingen an der Donau – 1556 in Vienna) was an artist, printer, poet and medical author of the Reformation period.
Condition: Good. Minor marginal age spotting.
