The vintage
This appellation, spanning over 1,000 hectares, lives in the shadow of its larger neighbor, Pomerol, home to so many world-renowned châteaux, including the famous Pétrus. Yet, the terroir, composed of clay, gravel, and even sand in the western part of the appellation, makes it an excellent breeding ground for great wines, which Merlot thrives on in this part of the riverbank. Here, the wines acquire exemplary finesse on the palate, which, with age, can develop strong aromas of truffle as well as beautiful red and black fruit notes. These wines, of remarkable finesse, are delightfully approachable in their youth. They are wines with often crisp and fresh fruit, and possess a beautiful structure when planted with Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon brings great elegance as well as tremendous aging potential. Cabernet Franc brings freshness, red fruit and floral complexity, while Merlot brings its smoothness and seductive fruitiness in its youth.
