Description from the seller
Eduard van Zurck / Pieter van der Schelling: Codex Batavus, which briefly encompasses the general church, public, and civil law of Holland, Zeeland, and the jurisdiction of the Generality: drawn from all edicts, ordinances, placates, and resolutions, before and after the establishment of the Republic, especially concerning the state administration of Holland and West Friesland, first up to the year 1710, and thereafter until 1724. Respectively included, compiled, further explained, expanded, and treated according to Roman and contemporary laws by Eduard van Zurck: with the follow-up of placates, resolutions, remarks, and other additions by Mr. P. van der Schelling. The fourth edition. Reexamined, corrected for many errors, and supplemented with some additions. In Rotterdam, by Jan Daniel Beman and son, 1758. Large 4to: (38)1264(10) pages. Original intact parchment with ribs. Corners slightly bent. Binding and paper in good, sturdy condition. Title page and flyleaf slightly faded at the edges. A beautiful book.

He published in 1694 in Haarlem: 'Cicero's Selected Orations,' of which the second edition (revised and corrected for errors found in the first edition, published in Utrecht, 1773) was provided by an unknown person. The fourth edition was issued by Ant. Nodell, printed for scholastic use in Holland and West Friesland, by decree of the most illustrious regional councils, with dedication and preface by I.A. Nodell. L.B. 1809. 8vo.
Two years later, he published the Carmina of Horace, with his observations mostly compiled from Dacier. In 1706: Speech on the fortunate successes of the British, Dutch, and their allies. In the year 1706, held at Harlemi in the court of the prince. The Hague, Amsterdam, 1706. 4to.
