Etienne Pixa

Étienne Pixa (born in Strasbourg, France) is a Franco-German artist based in Berlin. He studied graphic arts and has a background in design and advertising, while photography has been an important part of his artistic practice since adolescence, developing his interest in observation, composition, and the visual richness of everyday life. Primarily self-taught, he has been painting since 2000, developing a personal approach that moves freely between abstraction and figuration. As a musician as well as a painter, he is particularly drawn to improvisation and to the unpredictable nature of the creative process. For Pixa, painting is a journey without a predetermined destination: a process of taking risks, embracing accidents and unexpected developments, breaking apart and rebuilding, and continually searching for new balances within the image. The final painting becomes a visual story whose meaning is not fixed, but remains open to the imagination and perception of each viewer. At the heart of his practice is the joy of creating and the freedom to respond intuitively to what emerges on the canvas. He seeks to leave that same sense of freedom to the viewer — an invitation to be surprised, to discover their own associations, or simply to dream.
