Ana Maria Lopes - hollow presence
Brazilian ceramic artist Ana Maria Lopes, now based in Belgium, works with themes of memory, place, and belonging. She holds an MA in Ceramics from the University for the Creative Arts, UK, and often incorporates soils from her family’s farm in rural Brazil into her materials. This sculpture, from her series Traces, combines a raw, textured slip with a glossy, flowing glaze, blending studio materials with collected earth to create a sense of material memory. With these one-of-a-kind objects, she reflects on transformation and the quiet ways memory takes form.
