Alexandre Petrus (1988) - PEGASE ET BELLEROPHON

TITLE : PEGASUS AND BELLEROPHON ARTIST : Alexandre Petrus (AP) TECHNIQUE : Hand-cut multi-layer stencil and spray paint SUPPORT : Cotton canvas DIMENSIONS : 61 × 46 × 2 cm YEAR OF CREATION : 2025 SIGNATURE : Hand-signed on the back – “AP” monogram sprayed on the front AUTHENTICITY : Original artwork delivered with a signed certificate of authenticity CONDITION : Mint ABOUT THE ARTWORK This artwork reinterprets the myth of Pegasus and Bellerophon, one of the most powerful narratives of Greek mythology, centered on ambition, transcendence, and the dangerous line between heroism and hubris. Pegasus, the winged horse born from Medusa’s blood, embodies absolute freedom, divine power, and elevation beyond the human condition. Bellerophon, the mortal hero who tamed him, represents courage, mastery, and the human desire to rise above one’s limits. Together, they form a fragile alliance between instinct and control, strength and intelligence. I chose to focus on the moment of tension rather than triumph. Pegasus is not shown in flight, but in a state of contained energy, rearing up, resisting gravity. This suspended posture amplifies the psychological charge of the scene: ascension is possible, but never guaranteed. The composition deliberately avoids narrative comfort and instead emphasizes raw potential. The sharp stencil cuts carve the anatomy with authority, echoing classical sculpture while stripping it down to its essence. The textured blue background evokes the sky, the divine realm, and the unreachable. It also functions as a symbolic void — a space of temptation, risk, and ambition. This piece speaks directly to collectors drawn to mythological symbolism with contemporary resonance. Beyond the legend, it addresses a universal theme: the human urge to surpass boundaries, to touch the divine, and the inevitable tension that comes with it. Pegasus does not promise salvation — he demands respect. ABOUT THE ARTIST I am a French stencil artist working between street art, pop culture, mythology, and contemporary painting. My practice is driven by a constant dialogue between instinct and precision. I build spontaneous, textured backgrounds and confront them with meticulously hand-cut stencil layers. Each artwork is unique. Even when a stencil is reused, the surface, energy, and composition are never repeated. I explore originality through repetition, where identity remains strong but every outcome is singular. I create works for private collectors, public spaces, and live painting events across France. My goal is to produce powerful, immediately readable images that carry tension, depth, and long-term visual impact.
