Early stoneware Bellarmine jug -Köln, Germany- around 1550 On offer is a rare early stoneware Bellarmine / beardman jug, made in Cologne around 1550. This richly decorated jug features a large beardman head with a beautifully detailed sculpted beard. Around the belly is a Renaissance frieze with floral vines and male heads. Above and below the band are acanthus leaves and a blackberry bud, as well as various medallions with profile male heads. The jug has a beautiful brown glaze. This is truly a museum piece that is rarely offered! Provenance: From a German private collection. Date: 16th Century ca. 1550. Size: The height is 17 cm and the diameter of the belly is approximately 13 cm. Condition: The jug is in good, restored condition. It involves a high-quality restoration carried out by a professional restoration studio. The original handle has been reattached and part of the upper rim has been restored. The belly, shoulder, and base are completely intact! (total originality approximately 90%). Will be packed very well and shipped with registered track/trace with insurance. Combined shipping possible, we return postage costs.
