Sasánida Bronce Cuenco con decoración incisa
A finely cast and hammered Sasanian bronze bowl featuring a hemispherical container with a flattened base. Its slightly convex walls slant upwards, leading to a flat rim, forming a wide mouth. The base of the interior has been decorated with incised concentric circles encompassing a central stylised floral motif formed from hatched lines and curls. The exterior remains unadorned. Earthly encrustations and a green patina alongside some scratches to the surface. Minor crack on one side running from the bowl's rim to middle of the body.
The Sassanians or Sasanians succeeded the Achaemenid Persians, establishing an Empire which, at its peak, expanded from the Euphrates to the Indus Rivers and included modern-day Armenia and Georgia. Sassanian art borrowed from Near Eastern and Greco-Roman traditions, and adapted the significance of these cultures’ iconography to the local repertoire.
Measurements: W 16.5cm x H 4.4cm
