Stefan Zweig (Introduction), E. M. Lilien - E. M. Lilien: Sein Werk - 1903

This first limited edition of "E. M. Lilien: Sein Werk" is a cornerstone of both Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and 20th-century Jewish cultural history. Published in 1903, it features a significant early introduction by Stefan Zweig, who was a close friend of Lilien. This rare monograph is the definitive anthology of the early works of Ephraim Moses Lilien (1874–1925), often cited as the "First Zionist Artist." Lilien was a master of the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style, using bold black-and-white contrasts and sinuous lines to reinvent traditional Jewish motifs for the modern age. Condition : Overall, the interior of the book is remarkably well-preserved, featuring crisp and clean illustrations, while the external binding shows significant wear consistent with its age and the weight of the volume. One text page (the introduction) shows heavy foxing/spotting and appears to have been tipped-in or repaired with adhesive tape, which has caused some translucent staining. The inner hinges show signs of reinforcement or old tape repair to ensure the heavy text block remains attached to the covers. (See pictures)
