Ancient Roman marble head of a young male, his hair styled in waves with a border around the face. The head is presented on a modern display stand which is included in the sale and allows for immediate presentation. The youthful male is carved with a calm and idealised expression. The face is softly modelled, with almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a small, closed mouth, conveying a sense of restraint and classical harmony. The hair is arranged in carefully carved, rounded locks, swept forward and framed by a distinct border encircling the face. The overall appearance reflects the enduring influence of portraits associated with Alexander the Great, particularly in the youthful physiognomy and idealised treatment rather than individualised portraiture. Such imagery was widely adopted in Roman art to convey virtues such as heroism, intellect and divine favour.
