ABOUT THE ARTWORK The heart is one of the most widespread symbols of our time. It circulates endlessly through social networks, is reproduced with hands, emojis, and gestures, and functions as a universal sign of approval, affection, or presence—often without requiring much reflection. In this work, Dr Drip introduces the heart shape into his classic series based on the logic of the spot painting. This well-known body of work reinterprets Damien Hirst’s iconic spots through Dr Drip’s distinctive drips, here reduced to a single one. The grid of colored circles follows its orderly logic until one drip interrupts the system and quietly undermines its order. This first exemplar of the heart series is composed of 116 individual spots. Future works using the same heart shape will be composed of 115, making this version structurally unique.
