Unknown - Qur'an - MidC16th - 1560

A folio from a good sized Koran dating back to midC16th in good condition. The folio contains the header (Surah) and first eight (8) verses of chapter 50, Qaf, forgather with the final 3 verses of the preceding chapter 49, Al-Hujurat (The Private Quarters). Verses 1-8 of Chapter 50 (Surah Qaf) in the Quran focus on affirming the truth of revelation, resurrection, and the oneness of God by pointing to the wonders of creation, responding to the disbelief of the Quraish regarding life after death. The key themes of these chapters are: defending the possibility of life after death against the doubts of the disbelievers; affirming Allah’s power to recreate life, just as He created the vast universe initially (omnipotence); pointing to the sky, earth, and plants as proof of the Creator's power and wisdom; and validating the Quran as a "glorious" guide for those who seek the truth. The folio is in 'nashki' in a fine hand with the scripture beautifully spaced and framed. There folio contains the Chapter heading in white thuluth within a gold rectangle, framed in red, blue and gold lines, 13 lines of scripture: 3 above the Chapter heading and 10 below. Gold 'aya' mark the verses. There is a 'floral 'juz' marginal on the left of the folio marking the 5th Juz of the new Chapter. There are no devotional markings on the folio, so the devotee would have been well versed in the devotional aspects of reading the holy scripture. There is a relatively simple frame surround in red and gold markings, with an outer blue frame line. The condition of this leaf is good, with some thinning below the marginal juz which can only been seen when held to the light. . Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional delivery fee charged by us.
