Asia Occidental Oro Pendant, con Rosettes

A fine Western Asiatic gold pendant decorated with fine filigree and rosette motifs. The pendant is curved in shape with a hollow interior. The pendant features fine filigree of which twisted gold wires form a circle to either side of the piece. Within each circle is a rosette motif, one formed from six drop-shaped cloisons with a central granule, possibly intended for inlays, whilst the other is of a small size and formed from a single gold wire. Two gold loops, each topped with granule, have been added to the top for suspension. There is a crack across the body on one side. Many grand civilisations inhabited the Near East, their wealth and prosperity is witnessed by the very sophisticated precious metal crafting of jewellery. Gold would have been hammered down into a thin layer and manipulated into different shape. Filigree consisted of designs created from twisted wire and small beads soldered together forming different motifs and patterns. Gold and silver jewellery were also enriched with gold granules, glass, and semi-precious stone inlays with detailed engravings. Very fine granulation along with filigree, were at the centre of Near Eastern and Western Asiatic jewellery production and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans. Measurements: L 2.4cm x W 2.2cm Weight: 2.24g Provenance: Ex Japanese deceased gentleman collection, 1970-2010. Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller . No further tests, such as an analysis of metals(XRF-test) have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
