British - Heraldic varia - 1970-1996

1. Heraldry for Embroiderers, 1990, Vicky Lugg & John Willicocks. 128 p. Heraldry has a long and romantic history, stretching back as far as the glorious Age of Chivalry. Heraldry can therefore be a rich source of inspiration for embroiderers and the authors show us how to incorporate heraldic motifs into embroidery without transgressing convention and how to use that convention as a basis for the development of a design. 2. Heraldry for the Designer, 1970, William Metzig. 137 p. Anthony Wood was critical of Metzig's approach to heraldic art, because he rejected the traditional approach. 3. Heraldic Art and Design, 1996, Anthony Wood, 157 p. Published in 1996, “ Heraldic Art and Design” was the first major practical book about the art of heraldry since Heather Child’s book which was published almost thirty years previously. 4. Heraldic Miniature Knights, 1991, Peter Greenhill, 176 p. An introduction to basic heraldic terminology, its use in the medieval period, and its application to the art of the heraldic miniature knight. This book also provides a history of the model knight, from early toy beginnings to the work of present day exponents such as Richard Courtenay. 5. British bookplates: A pictorial history, 1979, 160 p. An illustrated history of 500 years of British bookplates with reproductions of 261 (heraldic) bookplates.
