A Roman Iron Spearhead or Scorpio Bolt Head, 1st - 3rd Century A.D.

Well-preserved Roman iron spearhead (or scorpio artillery bolt) with a long, elegant leaf-shaped blade and strong tapering tang for hafting. The piece shows a rich dark reddish-brown patina with areas of stable iron oxide, characteristic of ancient Roman military equipment. The form is typical of light javelins or the deadly bolts fired by the Roman scorpio (scorpion) torsion artillery.
Such weapons were essential in Roman legions and auxiliary units, combining lethal penetration power with portability. This example is a fine representative of Roman military technology and craftsmanship.
