Reloj de repisa de figura - Bronce, Latón - 1800-1850

An early 19th-century Franco-Swiss Empire mantle clock, known as a Pendule au Colporteur (Traveling Peddler Clock). This rare piece features a detailed sculpted traveler in dark patinated bronze, carrying a large gilded bronze ladder on his back, which houses the clock movement. The figure holds a walking stick in one hand and a suitcase in the other. His hat rests at the top of the ladder. The entire composition stands on an oval gilded bronze plinth supported by four turned feet. The clock face is made of a white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and open-work hands. The primary body and base are cast in bronze with original fire-gilding (ormolu). The carried suitcase is made of white metal alloy that has been finished with a matching gold layer. Measurements: Height: 20.5 cm Width: 7 cm Depth: 13.5 cm Net Weight: 987 g Condition: The clock is in good antique condition and is sold as a restoration project. The cosmetic state of the bronze sculpture is very good, with the original fire-gilding bright and intact across the main body and base. The gilded suitcase shows light wear to the gilding. The enamel dial has a few hairline cracks and chipping just under the 4 o'clock position, as well as around the winding aperture. The movement is currently non-functioning and does not tick. The winding key is missing. The internal suspension and pendulum mechanism show an improvised repair utilizing a string. It is a beautiful antique piece in great cosmetic condition that needs some care to bring it back to its Glory Days. Please take a good look at the photos, which are an integral part of the description. This lot will be carefully packed so it will get to its new owner exactly as it should.
