This handsome copy is illustrated with 14 illustrations, including frontispiece, and vignette title page. Published by Sampson Low, Son & Co., London, 1861. Publisher’s original half leather spines, with red boards. The spines has six compartments with raised bands decorated with floral gilt, gilt lettering within brown label to second compartment. Marbled endpaper pages and all page edges.

Condition
Firm and well bound copy. External covers in nice shape, slightly marked, and with minor scuffing to the leather and light wear to corners, and to top and foot of the spines. Internally; in very good condition. Neat inscription on first blank front free endpaper page. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at the gutters. Pages are clean. The illustrations in very good condition (Please see pictures).

George Catlin
George Catlin (July 26, 1796 – December 23, 1872) was an American painter, author, and traveller, who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Old West. Following a brief career as a lawyer, he produced two major collections of paintings of American Indians and published a series of books chronicling his travels among the native peoples of the North, Central and South America.
