Félix Díaz de Escauriaza - Underwater II

Title: Underwater II Artist: Félix Díaz de Escauriaza. Year: 2025. Technique: Digital illustration created with custom oil‐paint brushes. Size: 50x70 cm (vertical format). Limited edition: 3/5. Unframed. *No AI of any kind was used in its creation* ----- This illustration is a companion piece to Underwater I, created exclusively for Catawiki and never seen before. While maintaining the same style and essence as the original, Underwater II stands as a distinct artwork of its own. A naked man dives alone into the deep blue sea on a bright, sunny day. Surrounded by water, he descends with only the sound of his breath, undisturbed by the mysteries below. Underwater II can also be displayed as a diptych alongside Underwater I, another work by the same artist. Together, the meaning of the artwork shifts entirely, as the two men from each illustration seem to dive directly into each other’s path, transforming solitude into a shared connection. This is print number 3 from a limited edition of only 5 copies, in a 50x70 cm format. Unframed. Printed on archival, acid-free, cotton-based Hahnemühle Matt Fibre paper (200gsm), with a matte finish, using UltraChrome HDX inks for a long-lasting colour. Hand-signed by the artist. Includes a certificate of authenticity. The printed image covers approximately 44×65 cm, leaving a uniform margin of about 2,7 cm on all sides. The work will be carefully delivered rolled inside a protective tube, with packaging designed specifically for artworks. *** PLEASE NOTE: Each print is made to order following a confirmed sale to ensure minimal storage time and optimal quality. Please allow up to five additional days for production before shipping. *** ---------- ABOUT FELIX DIAZ DE ESCAURIAZA Félix Díaz de Escauriaza is a Spanish artist (Madrid, 1983) specialized in editorial illustration and advertising illustration. He has worked on projects for clients such as Lancôme, Penguin Random House, L'Oréal, Nike, and the government of Madrid and his work has also been featured in renowned Spanish publications, including Vanity Fair, Condé Nast Traveler, Vogue, GQ or TimeOut. Félix began his journey working on physical supports and traditional canvases, but today he prefers the immediacy and flexibility of a fully digital workflow. Using an iPad and drawing directly with an Apple Pencil, he creates each illustration in Procreate, leveraging custom brush sets that faithfully mimic real-world media. His process is the same as that of traditional physical-media artists: from preliminary studies and hand‑drawn sketches to careful layering of color and texture. Here, however, every stroke is captured digitally ready to shine on fine art paper. AWARDS 2026 – World Illustration Awards / Longlisted artist, professional editorial category. 2026 – Certamen de ilustración en prensa Museo ABC / Finalist. 2026 – Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles Illustration West 64 / Certificate of merit. 2025 – World Illustration Awards / Longlisted artist, site-specific category.
