A very fine Bronze Age spearhead cast from bronze featuring a slender blade with rounded corners. Running down the centre is a very prominent midrib with blood channels on either side. The midrib leads to a conical shank enriched with diagonal, swirling grooves. Below is a square sectioned tang which slightly curves at the base forming a rat-tail. This ‘rat-tail’ construction inserted into a wooden shaft reduced further splitting upon use. In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts. Measurements: (circa) L 35.4 cm Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
