Shepard Fairey (OBEY) - "Make Art not War "(2003) Signed Lithograph.

Author: Shepard Fairey Title: Make Art not War (2003) Size: 91,5 x 61.5 cm.) Fine art offset Lithograph, on thick high-quality cream Speckletone paper. Hand signed by Shepard Fairey. New to frame. Displays a vivid and sharp image. Copyright: Shepard Fairey, Printed in USA. Shipping in a rigid tube via certified express mail. It is possible to collect more than one object, from the same auction, in the same shipment. Shepard Fairey, best known worldwide as OBEY, is one of the leading figures in contemporary urban art and the creator of the iconic HOPE poster for Barack Obama. His signed lithograph Make Art Not War (first created in 2003) is a powerful anti-war statement that celebrates creativity as a tool for peace. This lithograph, created during the Iraq war, is an alternative phrase inspired by popular 1960s anti-war mantra, “Make love, not war.” In this case, Fairey asserts the need for creative rather than destructive acts. The Art Nouveau style of the image is an additional reference to the influence of Art Nouveau on hippie and psychedelic art of the ‘60s, including many anti-Vietnam war posters. Over the years, it has circulated globally as a symbol of resistance against violence and a celebration of art’s transformative power. Owning this signed lithograph means holding a piece of contemporary art history—an emblem that bridges activism, design, and cultural impact. Shepard Fairey belongs to the same generation of artists as Alessio B., Arsham, Bambi, Banksy, Ben Eine, Blek the Rat, C215, D*Face, Dran, Eelus, Faile, Fin Dac, Gaia, Herakut, Howishisnombre, Imbue, Invader, JR, JonOne, Kaws, Logan Hicks, Martin Whatson, Mr. Brainwash, Nick Walker, Pure Evil, Seth, Speedy Graphito, Swoon, Tabby, and Trust.Icon.
