Ancient Celtic men were known for their carefully groomed appearance, often wearing long hair and moustaches, but preferring clean-shaven cheeks and chins. Caesar describes how the "Celts" shaved every part of their body other than their head and their top lip
They used razors and tweezers, and sometimes lime water to stiffen and lighten their hair. Beards were rare among the Celts of Gaul and Britain, suggesting that shaving was a mark of pride, discipline, and warrior status.
