A bold horizontal stripe of red cuts across the middle of the painting, dividing it sharply into two worlds. Above the line, the figures stand luminous and present. Below it, their forms dissolve into faded, ghostly strokes, like shadows left behind. This painting made me think about barriers and visibility, about who stands in the light and what gets left behind. I loved working with the gold tones and the contrast of that single red line against the darkness. It is one of my favourite pieces. Sonia Anton is a Romanian-Australian artist whose passion for painting was shaped from an early age, growing up alongside her mother, a celebrated artist whose work left a lasting impression. Having lived across the world from Australia to Mexico and in different continents, Sonia brings a richness of experience and perspective to every canvas. Surrounded by creativity and self-expression from childhood, she naturally found her own voice through paint and colour. Her work is driven by a deep love of colour, and a more recent fascination with texture, which she explores with growing boldness and confidence.
