This unique whiskey, called "The Ink of Legends", was initially aged in traditional oak barrels and then finished in Don Julio Añejo tequila barrels, which gives it a unique character combining the peat smoke of Islay with Mexican herbal and fruit notes. Production details and characteristics Whisky is 12 years old, it is bottled in natural barrel strength at the level of 56.4% ABV, in bottles with a capacity of 0.7 l, without cold filtration and with natural color. Inspired by the ancient art of Mesoamerican tattoo, this edition symbolizes the intensity and pride of Lagavulin's more than 200-year history, with legendary motifs on the label and packaging. The Special Releases 2023 series includes eight single malts from different distilleries, emphasizing the cultural exchange through unusual barrel finishes, such as tequila in this case, which gives the whiskey a modern twist on the classic Islay profile. Tasting notes Aroma: Intense peat smoke and sea breeze, with notes of grilled pineapple, lemon peel, olives in brine, salted peanuts, white pepper, forest litter and a mixture of dried herbs. There are also accents of mango, light citrus and white chocolate. Taste: Peat smoke with salted caramel, lemons, bitter orange jam, smoked plum, black pepper, sea salt, herbal spices and roasted oak. The addition of tequila brings fresh notes of agave, smoked tea, dried plums and roasted herbs, with a slight sharpness and a medical touch of peat. Finish: Long and deep, with peat smoke, toffee, sea salt, pepper, dried herbs, pine needles and oak tannin. It leaves the impression of moist ash, iodine and light sweetness of berries, reminiscent of lemonade.
