Terrestrial table globe - Joseph Forest (J. Forest) - Francese, Parigi - 1920-1930

Early 20th Century French Terrestrial Globe – J. Forest – Paris An authentic early 20th-century French terrestrial globe, produced in Paris and featuring cartography by Joseph Forest, a noted French geographer of the period. The globe was published and manufactured by Girard, Barrère & Thomas, well-known Parisian editors of educational and scientific material. The cartography is presented in French and reflects the geopolitical landscape of the pre-Second World War era, with numerous historical place names and colonial territories such as Afrique Équatoriale Française, Congo Belge and Indes Néerlandaises. This places the globe firmly within the Edwardian / Belle Époque period, making it both a historical document and a refined decorative object. The globe is constructed from printed paper gores applied to a papier-mâché sphere, finished with its original protective varnish. It is mounted on a minimalistic and functional aluminum stand with rotating axis, showing early industrial and pre-Art Deco influences typical of French scientific design from this period. The surface shows an attractive, even patina with light age-related wear and mild discoloration, consistent with its age. No major damage or restorations are visible, and the cartography remains clear and legible. A fine example of an early 20th-century French educational globe, ideal for collectors of antique cartography, scientific instruments, or elegant study and library interiors.
