Poltrona - Quercia - Sedia Dagobert Savonarola
Dagobert Savonarola Chair with Lion Heads – Solid Oak – ca. 1890
Description
A highly impressive and richly carved Dagobert Savonarola chair, crafted from solid oak and dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900).
This type of chair is referred to as a Dagobert Savonarola due to its powerful, almost throne-like appearance, combined with the classical Savonarola construction featuring curved side frames and a slatted seat.
The chair is extensively decorated with hand-carved details, including expressive lion heads on the armrests and within the central connecting element, traditionally symbolising strength and guardianship.
The backrest is richly carved with symmetrical floral and Renaissance-inspired motifs, executed with evident craftsmanship and depth. The quality of the carving, proportions, and choice of timber indicate production in a European workshop, most likely Southern Europe (Italy), where such representative chairs were produced during the 19th century.
