First edition of this famous account of the Gorilla ("the monstous and ferocious ape").
Paul Du Chaillu spent four years (1856-59) on his first expedition into Central Africa, to an area previously unexplored by Europeans.
He made several important discoveries regarding the rivers of the region, the natives and unusual animals and fauna.
He collected a vast numers of specimens of birds, animals and fauna.
The famous engraving of the gorilla was the fist published illustratioin of the animal.
Book in good to very good condition.
Very well illustrated.
