Seiko - Skyliner PDP - Senza prezzo di riserva - Ref. 6220-7020 - Uomo - 1965

This is a vintage Seiko Skyliner PDP, reference 6220-7020, manufactured in 1965. Historical background and model positioning During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Seiko was rapidly advancing its watchmaking technology in pursuit of international standards. One of the key achievements of this period was the Seiko Liner, a high-grade, thin, hand-wound dress watch positioned above standard models and recognized for its precision, refinement, and elegant construction. The Skyliner was developed as the refined successor to the Liner concept. While maintaining the slim profile, manual-winding architecture, and precision-oriented philosophy of the Liner, the Skyliner was designed to be more versatile and accessible for daily wear during Japan’s period of rapid economic growth in the 1960s. As such, the Skyliner represents an important bridge between Seiko’s high-grade dress watches and its broader lineup, combining elegance, practicality, and mechanical quality. Case and exterior finish (PDP) This reference 6220-7020 is widely associated with PDP (Palladium Plated) finishing. PDP is generally understood to indicate a palladium-based surface treatment used by Seiko in the 1960s to achieve a distinctive pale metallic tone with improved resistance to corrosion compared to conventional plating. The finely textured bezel, featuring a subtle cross-hatched pattern, enhances light reflection and gives the watch a unique visual presence that differs from standard smooth cases. This type of finish and surface treatment is characteristic of select Skyliner models from this period and is considered one of their defining design features. Dial and design The dial is a clean silver tone with applied hour markers and a minimalist layout, reflecting Seiko’s mid-1960s design philosophy for professional and business use. The absence of a date window emphasizes symmetry and legibility. The “Skyliner” script and “Diashock 21 Jewels” marking underline both the model identity and its technical specification. Movement The watch is powered by Seiko Caliber 6220, a 21-jewel manual-winding movement operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. This caliber is known for its thin construction, smooth hand-winding feel, and reliability, and represents the culmination of Seiko’s hand-wound movement development before the company increasingly shifted focus toward automatic and high-beat designs. Condition and strap A new leather strap has been fitted. The case, dial, and hands show age-appropriate signs consistent with a vintage watch, preserving the original character of the piece. Operating condition and disclaimer As a vintage watch, it was running at the time of listing; however, stable continuous operation and time accuracy are not guaranteed. Water resistance is not guaranteed. The watch will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking to ensure safe delivery.
