Election is a historic Swiss watch brand associated with the Braunschweig family, with roots dating back to the mid-19th century. The brand appeared in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1904 and quickly became one of the city’s largest watch manufacturers. Election was known for its high-quality, slim movements and technical innovations, such as the crownless integrated setting system. During the 1910s and 1920s, the company employed several hundred workers, but due to the Great Depression, it went bankrupt in 1931. Later that same year, the Braunschweig family relaunched the company under the name Nouvelle Election. The brand regained success during the 1930s to 1950s with models such as the Grand Prix and Supermatic, supported by a strong international presence. From the 1970s onward, Election gradually faded and finally ceased operations in 1987 under the name Douest SA. Today, its legacy remains an important part of Swiss watchmaking history.
