American artist Francis (James Francis) Day (1863-1942). Day was born in Lanesboro, Massachusetts, and began his studies at the Art Students League in New York City at a very young age. He also studied with Hebert and Merson at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, in New York City from 1888 to 1897, becoming an Associate member in 1906. He also became a member of the Salmagundi Club, New York City, in 1888 and the Society of American Artists in 1891. He is best known for his domestic genre, nature, animals and portrait paintings.
