Elgin American, a division of the Illinois Watchcase Company, produced stylish, high-quality lighters and compacts from the 1890s through the 1950s, known for luxury finishes like gold plating and mother-of-pearl, especially their unique "Magic Action" cigarette case/lighter combos and innovative "400" models with distinct flint/fuel designs, all reflecting the brand's heritage in fine accessories from their Elgin, Illinois base.
