Russia. Nicholas II. 50 Kopeks 1912 ЭБ (Senza prezzo di riserva)
50 Kopeks 1912 (EB). Nicholas II. Silver.
The presented lot is a silver 50 Kopeks coin from the reign of Nicholas II. This was the period of the Empire's "Golden Sunset" — a time of the Russian Empire's peak economic prosperity before World War I. The coin was a full-value legal tender with a high content of pure silver (9 grams of fine silver out of a total weight of 10 grams).
The obverse features the portrait of the last Emperor, created by the prominent medalist Anton Vasyutinsky. His craftsmanship was so highly regarded that his designs later served as the basis for the Soviet gold Chervonets. The edge of the coin bears the letters ЭБ — the initials of Elikum Babayants, one of the most experienced mintmasters of the Saint Petersburg Mint, under whom the quality of minting reached its technological peak.
The reverse is decorated with the Lesser Coat of Arms of the Russian Empire. The shields on the eagle's wings clearly display the emblems of the various kingdoms (Kazan, Poland, Siberia, etc.) that were part of the state during the period of its greatest power.
The condition of the coin is presented in detail in the photographs. Please examine them carefully for your own assessment.
