1884, 5th Edition thoroughly revised and corrected, two volumes. Most probably only the 5th Edition was published in a set of two volumes. Published by John Murray in London as part of their Murray's Foreign Handbooks.

Described as covering "Greece, including the Ionian Islands, Continental Greece, the Peloponnese, the Islands of the Aegean, Crete, Albania, Thessaly, Macedonia and a detailed description of Athens, ancient and modern, classical and medieval".

Complete with all maps (fold out) and plans - all maps present, the large folding map of the whole region in the pocket at the end present and in reasonably good condition. A fold out map (of Athens) paper pasted on linen, the map in the pocket at the end paper pasted on linen as well.

Deep red cloth covers, gilt titles to front and spine.

With signs of age, soiled and rubbed covers and spines, corners with shelf wear, a little shelf lean for both volumes.

Interior with some faults - mainly at volume one (first pages with traces of tape-restoration and hinges).

Otherwise, pages clean, healthy. Spotting on back of fold out maps (more spotting on linen). Finely speckled at page edges.

Old ownership ink inscription on upper edge of title page of first volume.

Binding good, holding together very well, even though a bit shaky due to the kind of cardboard used to issue the hardcovers.

Overall a fair collector's item.
